About This Exhibition
“The Turning of the New Leaf”
- a springboard into this series of paintings

Consider this:
-Poetry (poh-i-tree)
-When paint touches canvas.
-When a symbol becomes more than just visual dialogue.
-When one is transported to a place that is recognized internally.

One cannot realistically depict in paint “flying” or “flowering” or “The Turning of the New Leaf” rather one senses, feels or perceives the essence of it.

“When a painting works we believe in it’s reality. When it works it touches something in us that recognizes it, and I think that what we recognize is our true self.” - Squeak Carnwath

This is a series of paintings that I have been working on for the past 4 years.
Two main subjects occupy the space, the lotus and the bird. The intention was not to merely document flora and fauna. They are symbols which are meant to give one the opportunity to travel, a ticket to go to another place, a place inside; to fly.

“Art making is making the invisible, visible.” - Marcel Duchamp

My wish is that what you bring to this work and the lenses you view through will reflect your own experience and personal journey. Perhaps a melodic symphony of experiences; a truth.
