About This Exhibition
From the very earth which the Gija people of the remote East Kimberelys have called 'home' since their Dreaming Ancestors created the extraordinarily beautiful region which famously encompasses the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu), come these distinctive paitings.
Natural ochres, collected by the artists from sacred places in this vast landscape, are ground to create the pigments which have forever been an elemental part of Gija cultural life.
Recognised internationally for their unique beauty, this exhibition celebrates the diversity of themes which contemporary artists bring to this most ancient of mediums - Rich Earth.
